Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World Details Revealed

Square Enix released screenshots and details for the recently announced Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World. The latest entry in the Dragon Quest Monsters spin-off series to Dragon Quest, the game is planned to release for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 3, 2026.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World stars Bianca (voiced by Eva Feiler) and Nera (voiced by Kimberley Capero) from Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. The duo meet by chance, with both searching for a way to cure the illnesses of their fathers and resolve to work together. Their adventure sees them becoming monster wranglers who rely on allied monsters that they have captured, bred, and raised to battle. They pick various allies, including Nera’s older sister Debora (voiced by Rebecca Hanssen); Fluffy (voiced by Caius Nicholas), a monster who teaches them about becoming monster wranglers; and Fizzy (voiced by Harriet Carmichael), Debora’s monster companion.

The game begins with Bianca and Nera searching for the fabled Leaves of Life. They are visited one night by Fluffy, who directs them to search in another land called the Kingdom of Witherwood, where the leaves are said to grow. However, upon arrival, they find that Witherwood is ravaged by malevolent forces. Fluffy gives them the power to befriend monsters, and they set out to revive the world and the Leaves of Life. Players will explore the various biomes of Witherwood, which include tropical beaches, fields of overgrown vegetables, and even the ocean floor. The game features a day-night cycle, with monsters behaving differently or different monsters appearing based on the time of day.

As monster wranglers, Bianca and Nera can befriend the monsters they meet throughout Witherwood, with the game featuring over 500 monsters in total. Players give orders to their party of monsters in the game’s turn-based combat. Monsters can level up and earn new abilities and spells as they get stronger, with players also able to synthesise two monsters together to create new ones.
