Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World Details Additional Modes

Square Enix released new details and screenshots for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World. The latest update covers some of the game’s additional online and offline game modes ahead of its release for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on December 3, 2026.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World features cross-platform play for its online modes. One mode, Online Joint Battles, see players joining forces to take on massive monsters. The mode features daily quests and special events, with players able to communicate with allies using preset messages. By using healing and support skills on their allies, players boost their Team Bonus, which increases damage inflicted and healing effectiveness. By completing Online Joint Battles and other challenges, players obtain monster eggs.

Players can also battle against others in Ranked Matches and attempt to improve their rankings, or take part in Private Matches, where they can customise the rules. In addition, the Wranglers Society lets players battle against parties that other players have uploaded. Winning Wranglers Society battles lets players spin a wheel to obtain items, mini medals, and other rewards. Finally, an online shop contains a variety of items, with its selection changing each day and depending on the player’s story progress.

Meanwhile, players can also compete in the offline Battle Arena at Witherwood Castle. The arena sees players compete in regular battles and joint battles across seven difficulty categories. Each category features three matches, with monsters’ HP and MP fully restored between them. Finally, players will also be able to unlock a special Wrangler’s Gauntlet. Created by Scruffy, it offers a roguelike challenge where players are given a new set of starting monsters each time, and need to build a party that can win fifty consecutive battles. After winning a battle, players will be able to strengthen your party, with the player’s monsters and those just fought are available for synthesis. Monsters and items obtained during the mode cannot be used in the main game, but players will receive Wrangler Points for each victory, which can be spent at the Gauntlet Goods shop.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World stars Bianca and Nera from Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. The duo meet by chance, with both searching for a way to cure the illnesses of their fathers and resolve to work together. Their adventure sees them becoming monster wranglers who rely on allied monsters that they have captured, bred, and raised to battle.
