Visions of Mana Gets New Details, Media

Square Enix released new details for the upcoming action RPG Visions of Mana. The company revealed more details about the game, including that it is being developed by NetEase’s Ouka Studios, as well as new screenshots, new character artwork, and a new trailer.

Visions of Mana begins in Tianeea, the Fire Village, where the people are celebrating the naming of an “alm” by a visiting Faerie. The event happens once every four years, with selected alms from around the world traveling to the Tree of Mana where they rejuvenate the flow of mana. Val, one of the guards selected to accompany the alm, brings his childhood friend Hinna to the festival, where she is selected at the alm.

Other major characters in the game includes Careena, a one-winged girl from Longren, the Vale of Wind, who wishes to be appointment alm and explore the world outside her home. Careena is accompanied by Ramcoh, a sacred beast cub who saved Careena in the past. Meanwhile, Morley comes from Etaern, the Moonlit Parish. He is deeply affected by a past disaster from his hometown that he becomes able to face after meeting Val.

Visions of Mana makes use of elemental vessels both during combat and exploration. These vessels are artifacts that house elemental powers within them and have multiple uses such as generating gusts of wind, moving rocks, manipulating time, and finding hidden items. By using vessels players will be able to access new areas and secrets, including in places previously visited. Elemental vessels can also be used to switch character classes, which provide different stats, weapon types, and abilities. For example, the Vessel of Wind can turn Val into a Rune Knight, Careena into a Dancer, and Morley into a Nomad, while the vessel of the moon changes Val into an Aegis, Careena into a Moon Charterer, and Morley into a Nightblade.

The game features new travel companion animals called pikuls. Players can use a Beckon Bell to summon them and ride on their backs to get around quickly. Pikuls will also trample any enemies encountered while riding on them.

Visions of Mana is the first new mainline entry in the action RPG series in over fifteen years. The Mana (aka Seiken Densetsu) series began in 1991 with the original Seiken Densetsu, which was released in North America as Final Fantasy Adventure and in Europe as Mystic Quest. Visions of Mana will feature real-time 3D combat with new designs from series illustrator Airi Yoshioka as well as a musical score from composers Hiroki Kikuta, Tsuyoshi Sekito, and Ryo Yamazaki. The game will launch in summer 2024, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
