RGG Direct Provides Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Release Date, Info

Sega and Ryū ga Gotoku Studio held a RGG Like a Dragon Direct presentation, providing news for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. The companies announced that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will release worldwide on January 26, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S with pre-orders now available for both physical and digital editions.

There are three editions available for the game. A physical and digital Standard Edition is joined by a Deluxe Edition that includes the “Master Vacation” bundle, while the digital Ultimate Edition includes the “Master Vacation” bundle, an assorted outfit pack the “Sujimon & Resort” bundle, and the in-game “Yakuza CD Collection Set”. All pre-orders will receive the Hero’s Booster Pack contain in-game items and the Special Job Set that adds the Linebacker and Tennis Ace jobs.

In addition to the release details, Ryū ga Gotoku Studio provided a ten-minute story trailer — which includes some spoilers for the game — and a six-minute gameplay trailer offering more insights into the game’s features. A sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth sees Ichiban Kasuga traveling to Hawaii in search of his mother, where he is joined by long-time series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, only to uncover something more sinister behind the scenes.

The studio also revealed some of the game’s English voice cast. New character Dwight, leader of the local Barracudas gang in Hawaii, is being portrayed by Danny Trejo. Meanwhile, another new character, ruthless yakuza syndicate captain Masataka Ebina, is being portrayed by Daniel Dae Kim. The game will also feature returning party members of Like a Dragon: Yakuza, as well as three new members: Seonhee making her playable debut, plus new characters Tomizawa and Chitose.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth will continue with the turn-based and job-based combat system of Yakuza: Like a Dragon with additional depth and quality-of-life improvements. Combat will give players full freedom of movement during combat, letting them position characters strategically to make the most of their skills.

Players will be able to freely explore the game’s Hawaiian distract, which features a dynamic weather system. Players can acquire new jobs by partaking in tours around the islands, with new jobs in Infinite Wealth including Samurai, Desperado, Geodancer, Pyrodancer, Housekeeper, Action Star, Sujimancer, and more. Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s Poundmates summoning system will also return. Party members can get stronger through numerous activities and actions. The game will also include the series’ traditional variety of mini-games, including the new Crazy Delivery — inspired by Sega’s Crazy Taxi — as well as Sujimon battles, online dating, karaoke, and more.

Meanwhile, the presentation also featured the opening cinematic for Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name ahead of its release on November 9, 2023. The cinematic features the game’s theme song, “Katatoki”, created by hip hop artist J.I.D and Japanese musician Yojiro Noda (lead singer of Radwimps). Like a Dragon Gaiden is set between the events of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. It follows regular series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, who is now operating under the codename “Joryu”, and features the locations of Sotenbori and Yokohama.
