New Horizon Forbidden West Video Features 14 Minutes of Gameplay

Sony released a new nineteen-minute State of Play video for Guerrilla Games’ upcoming Horizon Forbidden West. The video, viewable below, is hosted by game director Mathijs de Jonge and narrative director Ben McCaw, and features around fourteen minutes of gameplay captured on PlayStation 5. The sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn, featuring a world a thousand years in the future where the surviving humans have been bumped off the top of the food chain by vicious metallic beasts that roam the land, is expected to launch for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 sometime later this year.

The video follows heroine Aloy as she follows a band of raiders from the warlike Tenakth tribe to rescue a familiar face returning from the previous game. Erend, Aloy’s Osseram ally, has been sent by her to track down an important piece of technology, and has fallen into the hands of the enemy. In her effort to rescue Erend, Aloy shows off a number of gadgets, activating her Focus Scanner to highlight climbable ledges, using a Pullcaster grapple shot and Shieldwing glider combination to add more verticality to combat, and equipping the Diving Mask to travel unnoticed underwater. Combat abilities like slingshotting adhesive grenades to slow down attacking foes and using smoke bombs to escape unnoticed are highlighted, as are some new machine designs like the velociraptor-like Clawstriders, the mammoth Tremortusks, airborne Sunwings, and aquatic Snapmaws and Burrowers.
