New Release Round-Up (April 1, 2021)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases.


Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space

Another Eden is a turn-based RPG that stars Aldo and his sister Feene. After a demon attempts to use Feene’s hidden powers to destroy humanity, Aldo escapes through a space-time distortion, ending up 800 years in the future. The game’s scenario is written by Chrono Trigger’s Masato Kato, with music from Shunsuke Tsuchiya and Mariam Abounnasr, and a main theme composed by Yasunori Mitsuda.


Disco Elysium: The Final Cut

Set in a block of the city of Revachol, Disco Elysium puts players in control of a drug-addled cop who wakes up after a days-long bender and must solve a local murder. The game includes twenty-four skills to upgrade, a dozen tools, and a soundtrack from the band British Sea Power. Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch versions of Disco Elysium: The Final Cut will also release in summer 2021.

Kingdom Hearts III is the long-awaited follow-up and conclusion to Kingdom Hearts II. The game sees Sora and his companions searching for the Guardians of Light while attempting to stop Xenohart from beginning a second Keyblade war. The PC version comes with the game’s Re:Mind DLC. Legends of Ellaria

Legends of Ellaria is a real-time strategy sandbox RPG where players can build their own kingdoms, manage economies, fight in large-scale battles, and explore an immersive fantasy world. Players control a lord who is fleeing from a dying world, ending up in the dimensional crossroad world of Ellaria. There players will need to create a new kingdom and battle for control over a resource known as Riftstones.


Nanotale

Nanotale is a typing adventure RPG set in a world on the verge of destruction. Players control Rosalind, a novice Archivist who sets out on a journey to collect samples that may provide a key to the world’s dying state.


Neptunia Virtual Stars

Neptunia Virtual Stars, known in Japan as VVVtunia, is an action RPG spin-off to the Neptunia series. The game takes place on planet EMO, where the group of goddesses teams up with the virtual idol group called Mewtral in order to save the digital world known as Virtual Land. Outriders

Outriders is an action RPG that features co-op multiplayer for up to three players. Players control an eponymous Outrider, an advance operative sent out to identify potential threats as well as to clear the planet for a full colonisation effort. A demo is currently available that contains access to the campaign’s prologue and opening chapter as well as all four classes and six character slots.


Ruinverse

Platform: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 (previously released on PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch)

Ruinverse is a turn-based RPG that follows transporter Kit and his childhood friend Allie. The two join with a motley crew to save Allie from an affliction that caused her to have the soul of another person inside her and whenever she comes into contact with Kit, the dominant soul swaps.


Shachibato! President, It’s Time for Battle! Maju Wars

Shachibato! President, It’s Time For Battle! Maju Wars is a roguelike strategy RPG that puts players in charge of an adventuring company. Following an earthquake, a portal appears where the company’s offices once stood, with players tasked with diving into the dungeon within to rescue their employees and restore the business. Players control a party of up to five members and are able to recruit new members while gaining treasure and items from the dungeon.


The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III

Platform: Google Stadia (previously released on PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch)

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III is the third part of the Cold Steel subseries and is part of a wider setting that also includes the Trails in the Sky games. The game follows previous protagonist Rean Schwarzer as he begins his new role as an instructor at a newly-established military academy campus in the Erebonian Empire. UnderMine

UnderMine is an adventure roguelike that puts players in control of a peasant venturing into the titular dungeon in search of treasure and relics. Numerous NPCs can be rescued, who will provide powerful upgrades if returned safely to the game’s hub.


Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana

Platform: Google Stadia (previously released on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo Switch)

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is part of Nihon Falcom’s long-running action RPG series. The game follows series protagonist Adol (and his regular partner Dogi) after they become shipwrecked on the Isle of the Seiren.
