New Release Round-Up (January 28, 2021)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week.


Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy

Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is a direct sequel to Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness and the Secret Hideout with Reislin “Ryza” Stout returning as the protagonist. The game sees Ryza depart her home of Kurken Island to travel to the Royal Capital of Ashra-am Baird and set up her own atelier to use as a base for her exploration of the land’s ruins. Citizens Unite! Earth x Space

Citizens Unite! Earth x Space is a compilation including Citizens of Earth and Citizens of Space, with new content to link the stories together. In Citizens of Earth, players take control of the Vice President of Earth who is trying to save the planet while winning the votes of its citizens. Its sequel, Citizens of Space, follows the newly appointed Ambassador of the Galactic Federation of Planets. The Earth has gone missing and the Ambassador must recruit humans and aliens alike in order to find the missing blue planet.


Curious Expedition 2

Curious Expedition 2 is a narrative roguelike set in a reimagined late 19th century. Mysterious islands have begun to appear and vanish with explorer clubs funding expeditions to bring back treasures to the 1889 World Fair in Paris. The game features procedurally-generated worlds and storytelling with players required to manage their expedition’s resources and sanity.


Disjunction

Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch

Disjunction is a cyberpunk action/stealth RPG. The game is set in a 2048 version of New York in disarray with the rampant spread of a drug known as Shard. It features three playable characters, each with their own unique abilities and upgrades, as well as a story that reacts to player decisions.


Märchen Forest: Mylne and the Forest Gift

Platform: PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch

Märchen Forest: Mylne and the Forest Gift is a revamped version of the original game released on smartphones and PC in 2018. It adds improved visuals and new translations, supporting English, Japanese, Korean, and Traditional and Simplified Chinese subtitles. The game follows the young apothecary Mylne, who searches the forest for ingredients with which to brew potions. However, she soon gets caught up in a mystery that requires her to explore the forest’s underground ruins.


Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- The Prophecy of the Throne

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- The Prophecy of the Throne is billed as a tactical adventure RPG based on the light novel and anime series Re:ZERO. The game tells an original story supervised by series author Tappei Nagatsuki and introduces some new characters, including new royal candidate Melty Pristis. Sword of the Necromancer

Action roguelike Sword of the Necromancer follows Tama, a rogue tasked with escorting priestess Koko on her continental pilgrimage. Unfortunately, Koko dies on their travels, and Tama carries her body to the Necromancer’s crypt, where the power to resurrect the dead is said to lie. Two-player local co-op can also be unlocked through an item called the Flask of the Homunculus, which creates a copy of Tama.


Woodsalt

Platform: PC, Nintendo Switch

After a couple of unannounced delays, adventure RPG Woodsalt is now available. The game sees players control the drowsy protagonist Emcy who, after taking a nap, wakes up one thousand years in the future in the bubble city of Nu-Terra. As Emcy investigates his situation and how he came to be there, he builds up relationships with other denizens of Nu-Terra.


Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, Yakuza 5

Platform: PC, Xbox One (previously released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4)

Available: Steam, Microsoft Store
Price: $39.99 (Remastered Collection) or $19.99 (individually) (also available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate)

Also available in a bundle under the Yakuza Remastered Collection, Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, and Yakuza 5 were all originally released exclusively for PlayStation 3. In addition to graphical enhancements, the remasters of the three games have undergone a relocalisation process and include all of the content that was cut from their previous English releases, such as Yakuza 3’s mahjong, shogi, massage parlour, and cabaret mini-games.
