Sega Provides Extra Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis Info

Sega posted an update regarding the recently-announced Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, providing some additional details and attempting to clarify the connection between it and Phantasy Star Online 2. New Genesis will offer players a brand-new adventure taking place “1,000 years after Oracle’s battle”. It takes place on a wide-open field with time and weather cycles and will feature brand new game systems, a new graphics engine, and improved character customisation.

Phantasy Star Online 2 will continue to exist and remain playable alongside Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, with both games being free-to-play. Player characters will be able to switch between the two games, with the core Phantasy Star Online 2 graphics to be overhauled to work with the enhanced New Genesis options. However, character growth such as levels, experience, and skills cannot be carried over. Skill rings, consumable and boost items, materials, and furnishings cannot be transferred into New Genesis, nor can in-game currencies that affect the games’ economies. Weapons from PSO2 can be used in New Genesis but will have different stats and some level restrictions, Units can be transferred and will act as invisible armour, and Mags will not affect stats or aid players in combat but their Evolution Device data will carry over in New Genesis.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is currently planned for release in 2021 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows 10 in North America, and for PC and PlayStation 4 in Japan. Japan will also receive cloud versions for Nintendo Switch and PC.
