Kickstarter Check-In: Transformice Adventures, Hegemone Pass

RPGamer’s ad hoc Kickstarter Check-In feature returns for a look at two ongoing crowdfunding campaigns. This edition features Atelier 801’s Transformice Adventures and Meringue Entertainment’s Hegemone Pass.

Transformice Adventures

Transformice Adventures is a multiplayer action RPG where up to four players take on the roles of adventurous mice. Players go through dungeons battling against groups of enemies, the difficulty scaling depending on the number of players. There are multiple jobs to select, including Chef, Botanist, Journalist, and Trickster, which offer additional gameplay elements and can be switched between any time outside of dungeons.

After each fight, players receive one of Elisah’s gifts, which enhance their characters. These can be bonus effects like added attack power, while others may change how skills work; for example, changing projectiles into summons or letting arrows pierce through opponents. At the end of each dungeon players can choose to keep their gifts, in turn increasing the difficulty of the next dungeon, or start over.

Transformice Adventures is being developed for PC, Mac, and Linux, and is initially planned for release in late 2019. Atelier 801 is looking for €100,000 in funding, with the campaign set to run until June 7, 2019. Those who pledge at least €10 will receive access to the upcoming closed beta as part of their backer rewards.

Hegemone Pass

Hegemone Pass is a stealth RPG set in the mythological underworld of ancient Greece. The game follows the story of Persephone, Queen of the Underworld, whose mother Demeter — out of concern for her daughter — leads a war against Hades and the Underworld. In the attack, Hades disappears and the “corrupted” Persephone loses her title and falls from the palace. Demeter continues her hunt for Hades to imprison him in Tartarus and liberate the souls of the Underworld, while Persephone aims to protect the previous order.

Hegemone Pass features a mission-based structure, each with its own 2D level. Most task players with reaching the goal, though others will include elements such as finding a certain item and completing the level within a time limit. Players can switch freely between three playable characters: Yvonne, Ethan, and Emilie, each of whom has a special ability to help get through the levels and overcome certain obstacles.

When traversing the map, enemies that see the party will run to pray to Demeter. Once Demeter receives enough prayer, she uses it to power up surrounding enemies beginning “the Hunt”. During this time all enemies will actively chase the player, and if they are caught all nearby enemies will join the battle. Batttles are turn-based with the goal being to knock out the enemy leader, but this also applies in reverse: if the party leader is knocked out, the battle is lost. There are numerous other features of the combat system detailed on the game’s Kickstarter campaign page.

Hegemone Pass is being developed for PC and Linux, with a Nintendo Switch port set as one of the campaign’s stretch goals, and is initially planned for release in 2020. Meringue Entertainment is looking for €16,000 in funding, with the campaign set to run until June 10, 2019. Those who pledge at least €10 will receive a digital PC copy of the game as part of their backer rewards. A demo version is available to download.
