Kickstarter Check-In: Scrap Arms, Knights of Frontier Valley

RPGamer’s ad hoc Kickstarter Check-In feature returns for a look at two ongoing crowdfunding campaigns. This edition features Ernest Placido’s Scrap Arms and Adamant Studios’ Knights of Frontier Valley.

Scrap Arms

Scrap Arms is a roguelike RPG from solo developer Ernest Placido inspired by Spike Chunsoft’s Mystery Dungeon series. The game follows budding scavengers Ayo and Karin as they as the explore the caves near the town of Reeds, helping to solve the problems of the townsfolk. While in the caves they also search for their mentor Gnikolas, who has gone missing after setting out to search for the end of the cave system.

Scrap Arms uses a traditional grid-based, turn-based roguelike approach to combat. Players can utilise the random scrap, made up of many commonplace items, in combat thanks to the scavengers’ ability to armatise the scraps and gain abilities from them. The game also features a recycling system, where players can break down the scraps they have picked up and combine them into new items. There is also the option to act as a trader, collecting and selling scraps, potentially raising their value with the recycling system.

Ernest Placido is looking for $9,000 in pledges with the campaign set to run until June 1, 2019. Scrap Arms is being developed for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android and is initially planned for release in 2022. Those who pledge at least $12 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards.

Knights of Frontier Valley

Knights of Frontier Valley is a fantasy survival roguelike from Adamant Studios. Players create their own character with the goal of surviving twenty years in the game’s valley setting.

The game is divided into ten chapters, each taking place over two years of in-game time spanning the character’s time from 20 to 40 years old. Each chapter has its own main quest, but failing to complete it in time does not mean the end of the game. Knights of Frontier Valley features a turn-based combat system with an optional time-limit mechanic. Actions will use up action points, but with the time-limit feature active the number of action points availble will decrease as players are thinking about what to do.

Adamant Studios is looking for $40,000 in pledges with the campaign set to run until May 30, 2019. Knights of Frontier Valley is being developed for PC and Mac and is initially planned for release in late 2021. Those who pledge at least $25 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards.
