Suikoden Mobile Title, Animated Series Announced

Konami marked this week’s release of the Suikoden I&II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars collection with a broadcast event, during which it announced a couple of related projects. In addition to releasing the collection’s launch trailer, the company announced mobile title Suikoden Star Leap and an animated series based on Suikoden II.

Suikoden I&II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars will release on March 6, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Suikoden was originally released for PlayStation in Japan in 1995, with North America and Europe receiving the game in 1996 and 1997. The game follows a general’s son in the Scarlet Moon Empire, who seeks out the 108 warriors known as the Stars of Destiny to help overthrow a corrupt tyrant. Suikoden II was released for PlayStation in 1998 in Japan (1999 in North America, 2000 in Europe). It is set some years after the events of the first game and follows a new protagonist and his friend Jowy as they become involved in a new conflict that bubbles up between the Highland Kingdom and the City-States of Jowstown. Both games feature turn-based combat with six-person parties and a wider assortment of characters available to recruit.

Suikoden Star Leap is developed by MYTHRIL, which has previously been involved in battle and level design for Romancing SaGa Re;univerSe as well as planning for Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy & the Liberator of Polar Night and SaGa Emerald Beyond. The game will be a free-to-play title on iOS and Android, though a release date has not been announced. The game starts in a village just to the east of the Scarlet Moon Empire, where the hero, son of the village chief, returns to celebrations following his first hunt. However, the village is attacked, and the hero sets out with allies Hisui, Shirin, and Shapur in a quest to restore peace, with 108 new stars for players to meet.

Finally, Suikoden: The Anime is an animated series produced by Konami Animation, the studio’s first full series. It will be based on the events of Suikoden II, with its staff including director YUZO and producer Ryo Hino. A planned air date has not been announced. A teaser trailer was shown during the live broadcast, which can be viewed in full below (teaser starts at 17:26).
