Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Announced

Konami announced Suikoden I&II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, a remaster of the first two games in the Suikoden series. The collection is planned to release in 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Suikoden was originally released for PlayStation in Japan in 1995, with North America and Europe receiving the game in 1996 and 1997. The game follows a general’s son in the Scarlet Moon Empire, who seeks out the 108 warriors known as the Stars of Destiny to help otherthrow a corrupt tyrant. Suikoden II was released for PlayStation in 1998 in Japan (1999 in North America, 2000 in Europe). It is set some years after the events of the first game and follows a new protagonist and his friend Jowy as they become involved in a new conflict that bubbles up between the Highland Kingdom and the City-States of Jowstown. Both games feature turn-based combat with six-person parties, with a wider assortment of characters available to recruit.

The remasters will include graphical enhancements such as upgrade sprites, environment arts, and screen effects, plus redesigned event direction. The character portraits are also being redesigned by original Suikoden character designer Junko Kawano. They will also include new environmental and battle sound effects, plus additional quality-of-life features including a dialogue log as well as auto-battle and combat speed options.

Am I dead ? Never thought I would see that in my lifetime.

Excellent news though. I’m glad for those who were looking to play these and just couldn’t.

Art is nicely done. Be interesting to see how they polish up the script. If Konami can resurrect Suikoden, maybe even Panzer Dragoon Saga can live again one day!

I wonder if the save data will carry over between the two games without the capitalization error. Hopefully, they remaster III-V as well!
