Action RPG Bittersweet Birthday Announced

Publisher Dangen Entertainment has announced that World Eater Games’ action RPG Bittersweet Birthday will be making its way to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2025. The game, which currently has a demo on Steam, is inspired by early Monster Hunter titles, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Undertale, OneShot, and Hyper Light Drifter.

Bittersweet Birthday puts players in the role of a protagonist who wakes up in an unknown location without knowing how they got there and with no recollection of their past. With an unhinged group hunting them down, their only chance for survival is to follow the instructions of a voice coming through the speakers, offering an escape.

Gameplay combines the dodging mechanics of Soulslike games with the mayhem of bullet hell games, as players must learn enemy patterns and overcome their foes using an arsenal of punches, combos, blocks, parries, and cancel attacks. Each boss is multi-phased, with each phase becoming progressively more challenging. Players can learn more about the protagonist’s mysterious past through exploration, meeting a vibrant cast of characters, completing side quests, and uncovering secret items that unlock memories affecting their combat style. The game features hand-drawn pixel art, mini-games including darts, gachapon with up to 48 collectibles, and more.

I have been gaming since I received the Sega Master System as a young child, which was the first console I ever owned (Yes, I am that old). The game that got me into RPGs was Final Fantasy VIII, a game that I still adore to this day. My favorite RPG of all time, however, is Shadow Hearts on the PS2. I do have many other interests outside of gaming as well, such as watching old-school wrestling, Reading books, 80s movies.... or anything 80s related as a matter of fact.
