ALZARA: Radiant Echoes Announced, Kickstarter Campaign Underway

Developer Studio Camelia announced and started a Kickstarter campaign for its debut title, turn-based RPG ALZARA: Radiant Echoes. Ahead of the reveal, RPGamer was given an opportunity to learn about the title, which is planned to launch for PC and consoles in 2026. JRPGs are cited as heavy inspirations for the game, with Golden Sun, Final Fantasy X, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Lost Odyssey cited as specific references.

ALZARA: Radiant Echoes is set in the fantasy, Mediterranean-inspired Taqsim archipelago. The game follows the adventure of four heroes spearheading a resistance against the militaristic Vedorian nation. Togetherness and sharing are billed as main themes in both the narrative and gameplay. Studio Camelia is collaborating with Japanese artists on the game, with character designs from Yoshiro Ambe (Genshin Impact, Fire Emblem Heroes, Trials of Mana) and music from composer Motoi Sakuraba (Tales series, Golden Sun, etc.).

The four main characters are Kayla Skoros, Adil Pygolampida, Hugust Melissa, and Nakheel Kriket. Kayla is an instructor in Taqsim’s capital who, as the granddaughter of the archipelago’s current leader, becomes the reluctant leader of the resistance. She is outspoken but has a good heart and is devoted to her friends. Adil is studying diplomacy and is greatly skilled at persuasion. He is aiming to reveal the games and stakes wagered by those in power, but can be a bit naive. Hugust is a veteran Vedorian soldier. He starts out searching for a reason to live and to restore his prior self-confidence. Finally, Nakheel is a young but venerable sage, who do not judge but value their freedom above all else. She is also an experienced sailor.



The turn-based combat is designed to be dynamic, with the party split into front line and back line positions, with skills available depending on the character’s current position. While party members initially only have access to their primary element spells, there are ten elements available in total by combining their magic. Players will need to use and combine elements to take advantage of enemy weaknesses. In addition, each element and hero have its own archetypes; for example, fire is mostly offensive while earth is mostly defensive, and Kayla is primarily a damage-dealer while Adil acts as a healer.

Players can switch which heroes are on the front and back lines, and are encouraged to rotate their party between them, using the back line to recover while the front line leads the attack. The game uses Echo as a battle resource equivalent to mana. Echo is used to attack, with back line characters recovering Echo. When characters swap with a front line member, they will inherit some of the character’s magic. For example, if Kayla swaps with Adil, she will be able to use her regular fire magic, some of Adil’s air magic, and the combination lightning magic that is a mixture of fire and air. ALZARA: Radiant Echoes’s combat system also includes summonings. Players can make offerings, where they will temporarily lose some of their stats, to obtain favors. Once enough favors have been collected, the party can summon one of ten elemental Legends.

Studio Camelia is looking for €100,000 in funding from the Kickstarter campaign, which runs until June 14, 2024. Those who pledge at least €30 (€25 for a limited time) will receive a copy of the game as part of their backer rewards.
