Persona 5 Tactica Gets More Japanese Info, Media

Atlus released new details and media in Japan for the upcoming Persona 5 Tactica. The developer released a new trailer, as well as a new “Nyahoo! News” video, more screenshots, and more character art, which cover more characters, battle techniques, and DLC for the tactical RPG spin-off to Persona 5.

New story-related images show the Phantom Thieves in another world separate from that run by Marie in previous updates. The Yoshiki Kingdom is inspired by Edo-era Japan. It is run by a general who has set up surveillance across the land, and those who show any signs of defiance are set to do forced labour. In order to go about incognito, the Phantom Thieves don traditional outfits to blend in with the townspeople. Meanwhile, other story images highlight four more of the returning Phantom Thieves: Yusuke Kitagawa, Makoto Niijima, Futaba Sakura, and Haru Okumura.

The new combat details begin with turn order. As opposed to Persona 5′s character-based turn order, Persona 5 Tactica uses party-based turns. Players can switch which character is being controlled with a single button press, and can move them around until they decide to let the action play out. This also allows them to use the game’s triangle total attack system, where the three-person party uses an all-out attack on any enemies that lie in the triangle between them.

Persona 5 Tactica’s combat system also utilises elevation and ledges. Combatants can knock enemies off of raised areas, and any allies near the landing point will go follow up attacks that can lead to extra turns. If an ally is knocked out, players can quickly swap in an inactive party member to join the fray in their place. The game will also come with five difficulty levels and let players change the difficulty during combat. In addition, players will have the support of the Velvet Room. Here it takes the form of an industrial smelter, with Lavenza providing the ability for players to fuse Personas into more powerful ones.

There will be some additional story DLC released at launch. The Repaint Your Heart DLC features Goro Akechi and Persona 5 Royals Kasumi Yoshizawa. It sees the duo uniting with Joker to investigate graffiti painted around Tokyo by an underground artist. Other DLC includes a set of powerful Personas from other titles in the series — including Thanatos, Orpheus, Athena, Izanagi-no-Okami, Kaguya, and more — as well as a special set of firearms.

Persona 5 Tactica sees the Phantom Thieves transported to another world, where they team up with the revolutionary Erina to fight the oppressive Legionnaires. The game will use a tactical combat system incorporating many of Persona 5’s combat elements, including the Baton Pass and Persona skills. The game is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch worldwide on November 17, 2023.
