My worst Kickstarter story is that I backed a Switch port of a late 3DS platformer called Chicken Wiggle in April 2018 with a target date of December 2018, and it was from a studio that had plenty of Switch experience. They’ve been incommunicado for more than a year now, and I’m not sure if it’ll be out before the Switch’s successor releases.
It’s probably telling that I couldn’t remember the name of my worst Kickstarter story without looking it up. I backed Soul Saga way back when. I even specifically backed a Wii U download version. The last update for that project was February 2020. Yikes!
Like StrawberryEggs, I made the mistake of backing Soul Saga. In retrospect, I should have been more discerning and chalk it up to lessons learned the hard way. I had another poor experience with Battle Princess Madelyn where the game was released and was adequate, but the creator balked on sending promised backer rewards and just stopped communicating with his backers. My experience with Dark Deity was far better and we will see how Sea of Stars, Eiyuden Chronicle and most recently Warside (a game heavily inspired by Advance Wars) turn out.
