Atlus Unveils Metaphor: ReFantazio

Editor’s Note — Atlus announcements during the previous Xbox Game Showcase held a “console platform announcement exclusivity” period and were later announced for other platforms. Our expectation is that the same applies here and that the games will likely be confirmed for other consoles in the coming days.

During the Xbox Games Showcase, Atlus officially revealed Metaphor: ReFantazio. The game was initially teased in 2016 under the code name “Project Re Fantasy”, with the game’s key staff including director Katsura Hashino, character designer Shigenori Soejima, and composer Shoji Meguro (known for their work on past Persona titles).

Metaphor: ReFantazio is a full scale fantasy RPG. Few details have been released about its story and gameplay, but is said to involve a kingdom on a precipice and will see players forging bonds with their allies. The announcement trailer shows turn-based combat, as well as a calendar system. Metaphor: ReFantazio  is currently announced for PC and Xbox Series X|S, and is planned to release in 2024.
