New Release Round-Up (May 25, 2023)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Cassette Beasts

Monster-battling RPG Cassette Beasts takes players to New Wirral, a remote island filled with monsters of all shapes and sizes. The residents have learned to fight back by recording the monsters on cassettes and playing the tapes back to use them in battle. The game features turn-based combat, with an open-world where players travel around with a companion, and two-player local co-op. Dark Quest 3

Roguelite tabletop-style RPG Dark Quest 3 sees players creating a party of heroes who embark from their camp to explore the world and defeat a power-hungry sorcerer. Adventures are procedurally-generated, with players able to select from twelve heroes to fight against over 60 different monsters. The game features a tactical turn-based combat system that makes use of combat cards.


Dead Ink

Dead Ink is billed as a Souls-like action RPG that utilises a fully top-down camera. The game is set in a world where every being is made of ink and players must harvest it to survive, while fighting down a labyrinthine tower.


Evil Wizard

Evil Wizard is a humourous action RPG with Metroidvania elements. The game follows a defeated villain who barely survives their previous fight. Players need to face an army of heroes while rediscovering their powers and infiltrating their own castle.


Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord

Platform: PC (previously released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch)

Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord takes place after the events of Fairy Fencer F and its enhanced Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force release. The game sees Fang and his allies encountering Muses who are able to use the power of songs to boost and alter other people’s abilities, and features a new tactical combat system. Greedventory

Pixel art action RPG Greedventory sees players venturing out to retrieve magical artifacts from the Igneous Sigil Brotherhood. They are accompanied by an ancient Imp companion who assists with casting spells. The game’s combat sees players using the mouse to attack, defend, and parry, while the keyboard is used for spellcasting. Items have durability that reduces with each use, eventually leading to them either ascending or being lost.


Monster Menu: The Scavenger’s Cookbook

Tactical dungeon-crawler Monster Menu: The Scavenger’s Cookbook released in Japan as Shikabanegurai no Boukenmeshi, which translates as “Eating the Corpses as an Adventure Meal”. It follows a group of adventurers who become stranded in a large dungeon. They need to survive using whatever resources they can find, including eating the monsters they defeat.


Miasma Chronicles

Price: $49.99

Tactical RPG Miasma Chronicles is set in Kentucky, 140 years after the collapse of the Great Stability that came with the appearance of the Miasma. The game follows the duo of Elvis, a young boy with a mysterious glove, and Diggs, his robot companion. It features real-time exploration before turning to turn-based combat.


Pocket Mirror: GoldenerTraum

Gothic horror RPG Pocket Mirror: GoldenerTraum a remaster of 2016 RPG Maker-created Pocket Mirror. The game is focused on exploration and puzzle-solving. Players control a character searching for her true identity in a bizarre and mysterious world. It features multiple endings, with the Pocket Mirror: GoldenerTraum release adding a new ending, upgraded visuals, 2D animated sequences, and new features.
