Slavic Adventure RPG Vranygrai Announced

Developer Dire Badger Studio has announced story-driven action adventure RPG Vranygrai. The game is set in the historical period around the creation of Great Moravia, the first Slavic state in central Europe, in the 9th century CE. Players control a Slavic priest, also known as the Volkhv, during the fall of the Avar Khaganate and clashes between Moravia and Nitra. After losing his sister to an attack by Avar forces, he sets out on a journey of redemption and justice.

Vranygrai is planned as a trilogy that will eventually cover the entirety of Great Moravia. The first game will include the region of Polana as well as the Kalamárka fort and town of Zvolen. The game will use a mixture of historical, archaeological, and mythological sources, including side stories based on superstitions and fairy tales, with players encountering creatures such as Polednica and Domovik. Vranygrai’s title comes from an old Slavic word meaning the “cry of crows”, which is said to portend bad events.

Vranygrai is currently being developed for PC and is available to wishlist on Steam. A release window has not yet been announced.
