New Release Round-Up (April 21, 2022)
Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.
Action RPG Anuchard sees players taking on the role of a Bellwielder, aiming to restore missing people’s souls and revive civilisation. As players gather more villagers, they receive benefits in combat, with gameplay making heavy use of knock-back mechanics for combat and puzzles. Chernobylite is a survival horror RPG that follows Igor, a physicist and former employee of the Chernobyl Power Plant who is investigating the mysterious disappearance of his fiancé, Tatyana, thirty years ago. The game recreates the real-life Exclusion Zone site using 3D-scanning technology and features free exploration, stealth, combat, crafting, base-building, resource management, and a non-linear story. The release of its enhanced PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions comes alongside its new Blue Flames DLC. Deck of Ashes: Complete Edition
Deckbuilding roguelite Deck of Ashes sees players leading a team of antiheroes as they seek redemption by dispelling the Ash Curse. Players assemble a deck of cards as they explore the procedurally-generated world, using them in turn-based battles against enemies. The game’s console release comes with the new Tome of Dimensions DLC included, with PC and Mac players able to purchase it via Steam.
Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars
Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars is an action RPG crossover spin-off between the Neptunia and Senran Kagura series. Neptunia x Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars takes place in the Game Ninja World, where two nations (featuring Neptunia’s Neptune, Noire, Blanc, and Vert and Senran Kagura’s Asuka, Homura, Yumi, and Miyabi) are battling through their respective ninja schools for dominance before the world is invaded by a machine army. A worldwide PC release is also planned for May 11, 2022.
Roguelike deckbuilder Roguebook is co-designed by Magic: The Gathering creator Richard Garfield. Players must choose two of the game’s heroes to take into battle, then play cards to activate their individual abilities. The game includes a chapter-based campaign, which requires that players restart after being defeated, but with permanent upgrades available. Shattered: Tale of the Forgotten King
Shattered: Tale of the Forgotten King is an adventure RPG with a focus on exploration and boss fights. The game takes place in a world called Hypnos, with players learning about the fall of a civilisation through its few survivors.
Winter Ember is a stealth action RPG. The game puts players in the role of Arthur Artorias, the sole survivor of a massacre that desroyed his family’s legacy. After eight years in exile, he returns to the Victorian town of Anargal to take vengeance form the shadows. The game features three skill trees in stealth, combat, and utility as players can use multiple methods to take down their targets.
