The last adventure game I played was Return to Zork. Maybe it’s because I was young but I have fond memories of it, despite it being one of those games where you have to collect something that is both innocuous and easily destroyed or you get soft-locked. So maybe time to revisit the genre?
My favourite adventure games would be the LucasArts classics – Monkey Island I and II, Full Throttle and Grim Fandango – but my pick for one to start is probably Day of the Tentacle.
For visual novels, Hatoful Boyfriend threw me for a loop. Wasn’t really expecting it to go in THAT direction! Looking forward to the Danganronpa collection when it hits Switch, though.
Actual QotW: I got sucked into the Grand Theft Auto series in the PS2 era, beating III, then Vice City, then picked up San Andreas – and hit a wall about two thirds of the way through. Never played another GTA game since, nor do I want to.
I am a major mark for visual novels – I keep a Switch Lite around solely for them – and The House in Fata Morgana is locked into GotY for me. The last one I, um, read was Olympia Soiree.
[ Reminder to check the question of the week on the post is the correct one đŸ˜‰ ]
I’ve forgotten a bunch but for more pure visual novels Steins;Gate and 428: Shibuya Scramble as a top tier plus Raging Loop, World End Syndrome, and Collar x Malice. Bustafellows is a good more universal mystery otome like Collar x Malice so far though haven’t gotten through that yet.
On the adventure side Zero Escape series (VLR is the best one) and AI: The Somnium Files, Contradiction, Famicom Detective Club. Plus the obvious Danganronpa and Ace Attorney.
