Kickstarter Check-In: Ignis Universia, Crowsworn

RPGamer’s ad hoc Kickstarter Check-In feature returns for a look at two ongoing crowdfunding campaigns. This edition features Random Potion’s Ignis Universia: Awakening of the Erudite Empress, as well as Mongoose Rodeo’s Crowsworn.

Random Potion’s Ignis Universia: Awakening of the Erudite Empress is billed as a visual novel/RPG hybrid with plenty of humour. The game is a follow-up to Ignis Universia: Eternal Sisters Saga DX, which is currently available for free on Steam.

Ignis Universia: Awakening of the Erudite Empress follows four sisters: Eleanna, Silvanna, Mordina, and Zena. Each has her own class and unique abilities used to defeat enemies and solve puzzles. The game features a turn-based combat system where players can assign the turn order as they wish. Each slot in the turn order has its own element, granting strengths, weaknesses, and abilities.

Random Potion is currently looking for £40,000 (around $54,000) in funding, with the campaign set to run until August 12, 2021. Those who pledge at least £12 ($17) in funding will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards, with a number of cheaper early bird tiers also available at the time of writing. Ignis Universia: Awakening of the Erudite Empress is in development for PC and Nintendo Switch, and currently planned to launch in late 2022.

Mongoose Rodeo’s Crowsworn is a Metroidvania. The game is set in the dark world of Fearanndal, where players find themselves in a coffin within an unmarked grave. Players set off on an adventure starting at the small village of Angsthel, attempting to recover their memories and learn more about a curse inflicted upon the world.

Players explore the non-linear world, defeating enemies and gaining new abilities that unlock new parts of Fearanndal. There are three different weapons available: scythe, pistols, and Corvian magic. The scythe is suited to close-range combat, while pistols are good for picking enemies off from a distance. Corvian magic features a variety of attacks, including long-range projectiles and area-of-effect blasts, but consumes malice, which is generated by attacking enemies with the scythe.

Mongoose Rodeo has already passed its CA$125,000 (around $98,000) funding goal, with the campaign set to run until August 9, 2021. Those who pledge at least CA$20 ($16) in funding will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards. Crowsworn is in development for PC as well as PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles, and currently planned to launch in late 2023.
