Kickstarter Check-In: Oddventure

Pineapple Works and Infamous Rabbit have begun their Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for Oddventure. The game is a turn-based RPG, with Earthbound and Undertale listed as inspirations. Players are put in the role of Charlie, a socially awkward and rebellious teenage girl in the kingdom of Luxia searching for her younger brother Bonzo as well as a way home.

Oddventure’s setting is described as a “land taken straight out of original Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales with a dark, Nietzschean twist”. The game features a mood-based combat system, which allows players to send enemies running away or to spare them and receive a present as a reward. Decisions, including how players defeat enemies, will have major impacts on how the story plays out.

Oddventure is being developed for PC, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch and is currently expected to launch in 2022. A demo is currently available through Steam, itch.io, and GameJolt. The campaign is looking for €20,000 in funding and is set to run until June 5, 2021. Those who pledge at least €15 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards.
