We Are the Caretakers Coming to Steam Early Access
Developer Heart Shaped Games announced that sci-fi tactical RPG We Are the Caretakers will release on Steam Early Access on April 22, 2021. The Early Access version will be available for PC, priced at $19.99 with a 20% launch discount, and include English, French, German, Spanish, and Japanese language support, with more to be added later. A full release window has not been revealed. 10% of the game’s revenue will go to the Wildlife Conservation Network’s Rhino Recovery Fund.
Heart Shaped Games lists Darkest Dungeon, Ogre Battle, and XCOM as inspirations for We Are the Caretakers. The game is set on an afrofuturist planet when aliens make contact and show interest in a rhino-like species called the Raun. Players control the Conductor and attempt to protect the Raun from poachers by deploying squads of Caretakers.
We Are the Caretakers will include both a story campaign and a procedurally-generated survival mode. Players will be able to assemble up to nine squads, with the game including over twenty classes and over seventy abilities. Reputation and diplomacy systems will impact and have consequences on how others view the Caretakers and the outcomes of certain events.
