I’ve been playing Ocarina of Time for the first time in 20 years, and have been really impressed with how well it holds up by modern standards (albeit I’m playing the 3DS version, which I believe was slightly tidied up). My question is, how far back do you have to go before a top-notch AAA game of that era is basically comparable to a very good modern indie?
To expand on that, I would say top modern indies can easily compete with the best of the 16-bit era, even though many of those older games still stand up today – but does that apply to the fifth generation? Or even the sixth generation?
Which turn-based RPG bosses have you memorably had to retry several times before cracking them? And have any ultimately cracked you?
Sheesh. After listening to a bit of this podcast and a few of your previous ones on the SaGa games, with the sighs and the awkward laughs, I’m having a bit of a difficult time determining whether you like or despise the games.
