Final Fantasy XIV Live-Action TV Show in the Works

With the release of Shadowbringers, the MMO’s most recent expansion, only days away, fans already have another announcement to look forward to. A partnership between Square Enix, Sony Pictures Television, and Hivemind, the production company responsible for the upcoming Netflix adaptation of The Witcher, is bringing Final Fantasy XIV to the small screen in an upcoming live-action TV show.

The show will explore an original story set in Eorzea, the well-known game world that combines magic and technology, and feature many franchise staples such as chocobos, airships, magitek armor, and the live-action debut of iconic series character Cid. Sony Pictures Television Co-President Chris Parnell states, “Final Fantasy XIV and Eorzea are the perfect gateway into Final Fantasy for longtime fans and newcomers alike,” and adds that the show will be “…embracing and embodying all of the elements that have made the mythos such an endlessly captivating phenomenon…”

Further specifics on the show are still unknown. Questions like casting choices and viewing platforms have not yet been addressed.
