Super Neptunia RPG’s Skills Detailed

Compile Heart has provided new details on the upcoming Super Neptunia RPG, a spin-off title being co-developed by Quebec-based Artisan Studios. The new information covers the game’s skills and abilities systems.

Attack skills comes from both learning skills or equipping items that grant skills. When an item is equipped, the skill will become usable and players will earn experience for that item. Once enough experience is gained that skill is learned and can be used after the item is unequipped. For example, the Wooden Sword grants the skills Area Edge, a skill that physically damages all enemies; Mytra, a skill that magically damages all enemies; and Drain Edge, a skill that only physically damages one enemy but recovers HP.

Skills that can be used in battle must be set beforehand and the ones available depend on the formation of the party. There are five confirmed formations: Strike, Magic, Heal, Support, and Mix. Each formation has its own symbol that denotes whether a skill can be used within it.

In addition to attack skills, there are also passive abilities that can be learned in the same manner. The passive abilities can be set using ability points, with the point limit rising as characters level up.

Super Neptunia RPG is a 2D side-scrolling RPG scheduled to release on the PlayStation 4 in Japan on December 20, 2018. North American and European releases are scheduled for spring 2019 on both PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
