Utawaruremono Zan Receives More Details, Characters, Opening Movie
Aquaplus has released more details for Utawarerumono Zan, its upcoming action RPG spinoff for the Utawarerumono visual novel/tactical RPG series. The new gameplay details come with confirmation of two additional characters — Rulutieh (and her companion Cocopo) and Jachdwalt from Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth — as well as some new screenshots and the release of the game’s opening movie.
Utawarerumono Zan is split into various stages, where players take on various enemies. More playable characters are unlocked as players progress through stages, with players taking a party of up to four members into battle. Players control one character at a time, with the others being controlled by the AI, and can switch between them.
The game also features co-op multiplayer for up to four players. This is done by having one player create a room, which can be password-protected, which the others then join. If less than four players are in the room then AI-controlled members may be included in the party. The game features a stamp-based system for communicating online.
Unlike previous games in the series, which were combinations of visual novel and strategy RPG, Utawarerumono Zan is an action RPG being developed by Aquaplus and Tamsoft. The character list suggests that the game takes place in the same time-frame as Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception, though exact details on the connection between the games are not yet known. Utawarerumono Zan is set to be released for PlayStation 4 in Japan on September 27, 2018, with no announcement made regarding a possible localisation at this time.
For anybody who can’t wait for a localization, Aquaplus has also released a list of all of the goodies that come with the premium edition, including a very long list of retailer-specific bonuses: https://aquaplus.jp/uta/zan/#premium
As I’m dedicated to Kuon, I’ll be going with Sofmap for that Kuon tapestry, but all of those Rulutieh ones are also nice… and apparently Dengeki has a replica of Nekone’s tail?
