Caves of Qud: Diaspora Expansion Announced

Kitfox Games and Freehold Games have announced an expansion for Caves of Qud. The Diaspora expansion is planned to release in Early Access on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux on December 9, 2026. The Early Access version will be available for $14.99, with its 1.0 release currently anticipated after around a year.

Diaspora is themed around the influx of new riotous life and culture, and will include various features at launch. Players will be able to play as a Mutated Animal, a Mutated Plant, or a denizen of the Great Rondures on the Ocean of Iber. It will also include a new spear weapon type, new creatures, Dromad caravans, mountable saltbacks, and upgraded road and river systems. Additional features are set to follow in 2027, including a new migrant journey-focused questline, new foxen and snailfolk factions, new creatures, new items and item mods, new biomes, new cooking ingredients, new diseases, and more.

Released on PC, Mac, and Linux in December 2024 after fifteen years in development with a Nintendo Switch version following earlier this year, Caves of Qud is billed as a science fantasy RPG with deep simulation aspects. Players create their own character with over seventy mutations and dozens of cybernetic implants available, allowing players to fly, teleport, hypnotise goats, swap bodies with a robot, and more. The game includes over seventy factions, while all monsters and NPCs are fully simulated with their own levels, skills, equipment, faction allegiances, and body parts. It includes the Classic roguelike mode as well as friendlier Roleplay and Wander modes.
