Atelier Karia is the second title in the “Memories” sub-series, following on from 2025’s Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land. It returns players to the continent of Aladiss and follows amnesiac alchemist Karia, who seeks to restore her memories. Guided by Yumia Liessfeldt as she improves her alchemy, Karia ends up working together with heretic biologist Servio Lektor and talented fighter Fina Rozen to uncover the secret within Aladiss’s mysterious underworld.
The game will allow players to make use of style changes, which alter Karia’s appearance and fighting style. There are eight styles to use, which are unlocked in the story or by consuming meals, including Ignis and Mermaid. Ignis is a fire-element style that boosts Karia’s attack and imbues her skills with fire damage, but lowers her defense and make her more vulnerable to ice attacks. Meanwhile, the Mermaid style lets Karia use ice magic and increases her magic damage, but reduces her physical attack power and makes her weaker to fire attacks. In addition to battle, styles can be used while exploring, such as to break obstacles and walk on water.
Exploration also allows players use Interactive Field Actions. These let players interact with the environment using items, such as throwing items to gather ingredients, destroy obstacles, or damage enemies. New Flamme, Lehrune, Plajig, and Luft items (matching fire, ice, electric, and air elements respectively) can be used to activate gimmicks and let players manoeuvre through obstacles in different ways, while using elemental items on gathering spots can modify the ingredients collected.
Combat will include fights against colossal enemies that are split into Frontline and Assault Team Phases. Players will switch between teams during these fights, with the Frontline Team Phase seeing them take on the the foe directly, while the Assault Team Phase sees them provide support using structures and tool around the map. Players will be given objectives for each team; completing these drains the enemy’s morale and benefits players in battle. Objectives are divided into primary and secondary types, with the secondary objectives giving players options such as using shelters, sonic cannons, and item launchers, but ignoring them will assist the enemy.
Finally, the game’s synthesis system will involve connecting the mana pieces of the ingredients in a recipe map. Creating patterns can unlock certain effects, which change depending on the ingredients and their connections. Each ingredient can have different piece shapes, allowing for experimentation with effects. Connecting ingredient pieces in different ways can also alter the result of a recipe, potentially even changing the produced item entirely.
