Expeditions: Samurai Releasing into Early Access Next Month

THQ Nordic and Campfire Cabal announced that tactical RPG Expeditions: Samurai will release on Steam Early Access on August 7, 2026. The game, the newest title in the history-themed series, is currently planned to fully release in Q1 2027. The initial Early Access version is stated to include a slice of the game with nearly all of its major features. The Early Access release date announcement comes along with a new trailer introducing the companion characters that can join the player in the game.

Campfire Cabal is founded by veterans of original series developer Logic Artists who worked on previous entries Expeditions: Conquistador, Expeditions: Viking, and Expeditions: Rome. The game is set in Japan around the year 1600, shortly before the implementation of Japan’s isolationist policies. It takes place in a history where navigator William Adams never becomes Japan’s first European Samurai on account of the player character arriving first. Arriving onboard the Dutch frigate “De Albatros” as the new leader of a crew of privateers, players are drawn into a civil war, with their choices determining the fates of their crew and the future of Japan.
