Archetype Entertainment Showcases Exodus Gameplay
Archetype Entertainment released a gameplay showcase video for its upcoming sci-fi action RPG Exodus. The twenty-minute video, narrated by Game Director Chris King, the video gives a in-depth introduction to the game, providing information on its story, locations, and characters as well as showing its squad-based shooting combat, conversation and choice systems, and more. The game is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S and is currently planned to release in 2027.
Exodus puts players in the role of salvager Jun Aslan. Players can choose to be male or female, as well as customise Jun’s appearance and choose whether they are aligned with the Paladins or Immortals, which impacts how others in the setting react to them. Jun is an orphan member from a once-powerful family and has a genetic trait that lets them interact with Celestial alien technology. Their journey sees them travel across the Centauri Cluster, exploring ancient ruins to find a way to save his homeworld from a Celestial virus called the Rot, which is driving humanity towards extinction. Time dilation also plays an important part in the game’s narrative, with a days-long mission for players potentially seeing decades pass back home.
Jun wields a weapon called the Recycler, which can switch between multiple forms. The Repeater mode provides steady mid-range fire, the Shredder mode can be used for close-quarters combat, and the Piercer mode is ideal for long-range precision attacks, with more also available in the game. Jun can also upgrade his unique Gauntlet by salvaging alien technology to unlock abilities like Eruption, which can launch enemies and shape terrain, and Lance, which provides piercing strikes and clearing bramble. Other abilities include Precognition, which marks enemy locations; Scramble Cloak, which allows for stealth attacks; and Sonic Lure, which can draw out foes.
Players are accompanied by a variety of different companions. Phaedra Nath is a renowned xeno-archaeologist whose story is tangled up with the Celestials in ways she’s still discovering. Tom Vargas is an experienced and generally cautious Traveler who helps teach Jun his newly-discovered abilities. Elise Charroux is an impatient mech pilot who likes using brute force. Salt, an octopus mercenary, and Houston, Jun’s giant wolf companion, are both Awakened, highly intelligent animals who can speak, think, and live alongside humans, often acting as merchants, medics, and more. Finally, C.C. Orlev is the mysterious space cowboy, voiced by Matthew McConaughey.
