Nippon Ichi Software Announces Curse Warrior

Japanese publisher Nippon Ichi Software announced dungeon-crawler Curse Warrior. Developed by guruguru, the game sees players leading a party of adventurers into a dungeon called Eclipse, where they must adjust to and mitigate curses inflicted by the dungeon. The game will release in Japan for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2026.

Curse Warrior is set around the city of Echoes, where players act as an adventurer, taking on small jobs and requests. They soon receive a request to explore the nearby dungeon of Eclipse, which keeps the residents in fear as a result of monster attacks coming from within. The game begins with players taking on requests for other dungeons before Eclipse itself becomes available. Quests are available at the entrance to each dungeon, with varying objectives, and reward players with gold and experience should they be completed.

Echoes acts as the game’s main hub, from which players can recruit and upgrade party members. There are eight classes to recruit from in the tavern, with available recruits changing each day: Fighter, Barbarian, Ranger, Archer, Cleric, Paladin, Wizard, and Sorcerer. Each class has their own attack ranges and skills. Turn-based combat is command-based, with the player’s party consisting of four members.

As its title suggests, Curse Warrior’s main differentiating feature is curses. Enemy attacks and dungeon traps will inflict curses on party members, and have effects that are beneficial or hindrances to combat or exploration; for example, the Resilience curse increases defense but decreases maximum HP. Other effects include HP recovery, extra damage dealt, the ability to parry attacks, increased damage taken, reduced stats, or ignoring player commands. Curses can trigger at different times, with currently active curses indicated by a glowing icon.

Curses can also fuse together to form more powerful curses, which have stronger effects and higher activation rates. Each character can have up to six curses at once, each with two different effects. New curses are afflicted whenever a character’s Curse Gauge is filled to 100%, usually by taking attacks. However, if a character surpasses 300% on the Curse Gauge, they will die from the curse. In order to manage curses, players can use the Curse Removal Facility in town, which lets them remove specific curse effects. While a curse is being removed, that character cannot join the party on quests. Removing curses also grants Purficiation Points, which can be used to upgrade city facilities to help further upgrade the party.
