Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake Switch, Switch 2 Version Differences Confirmed
Square Enix has released new information on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions for Dragon Quest I&II HD-2D Remake. The company confirmed that there will be no upgrade path from the Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 version. Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch 2 version will not be playable on Nintendo Switch systems, while the Nintendo Switch version will perform on the Nintendo Switch 2 the same it does on Nintendo Switch.
As both versions are treated separately, this also means that save data cannot be transferred between the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions. However, those who have played Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake on Nintendo Switch can claim save data bonuses on the Nintendo Switch 2 version by transferring the save file to the Nintendo Switch 2 system. Those who have claimed a save file bonus on the Nintendo Switch version can also do so on the Nintendo Switch 2 version, or vice versa.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake will release on October 30, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Dragon Quest I-III make up the Dragon Quest series’ Erdrick trilogy, with Dragon Quest III taking place before the events of the first two games. The first Dragon Quest initially released for the NES/Famicom in Japan in 1986 and in North America in 1989. It sees players controlling a descendant of the legendary hero Erdrick, who is summoned by the king of Alefgard to rescue his daughter and defeat the Dragonlord. Dragon Quest II first released for NES/Famicom in 1987 and in North America in 1990. It takes place a hundred years after the events of the first game and sees players trying to stop the wizard Hargon from summoning the demon Malroth to destroy the world.
