Dragon Quest I-III make up the Dragon Quest series’ Erdrick trilogy, with Dragon Quest III taking place before the events of the first two games. The first Dragon Quest initially released for the NES/Famicom in Japan in 1986 and in North America in 1989. It sees players controlling a descendant of the legendary hero Erdrick, who is summoned by the king of Alefgard to rescue his daughter and defeat the Dragonlord. Dragon Quest II first released for NES/Famicom in 1987 and in North America in 1990. It takes place a hundred years after the events of the first game and sees players trying to stop the wizard Hargon from summoning the demon Malroth to destroy the world.
