Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase Introduces the Iceshard Cliffs
Capcom held a new showcase for the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds ahead of its launch at the end of this month. In addition to revealing more details about its second open beta test, the presentation also introduced the Iceshard Cliffs and a selection of other features in the game.
The second open beta test will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S and will run over two periods: February 6 (7pm PST) to February 9 (6:59pm PST) and February 13 (7pm PST) to February 16 (6:59pm PST). In addition to all of the content of the first open beta and a hunt for returning series monster Gypceros, the second beta will also include a hunt for flagship monster Arkveld. Capcom previously noted that certain improvements being worked on as a result of feedback from the first open beta, including performance, game balance, weapon mechanics, etc. will not be included in the second open beta build.
The Iceshard Cliffs join the previously revealed Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest regions. As its name suggests, it is a snowcapped and rocky area and is home to the brand new monster Hirabami. Hirabami is able to use sail-like membranes to float in the air, from where it attacks using its tail. The new trailer introducing the region also reveals two returning monsters: Nerscylla and Gore Magala. Other features highlighted in the presentation include various cosmetic customisation options for outfits, Sekiret mounts, camps, and more, as well as the game’s photo mode.
Monster Hunter Wilds will release on February 28, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game sees players joining a special Research Commission investigating an area called the Forbidden Lands. In addition to including seamless transitions from story sequences into gameplay, the game also adds new Seikret mounts, which can guide the riders to planned destinations and let them perform actions while riding, such as sharpening weapons and gathering materials, while also allowing players to swap to a secondary weapon without needing to return to base.
