Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta Running Next Week

Capcom held its latest showcase for the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. The showcase, viewable in full below along with additional media, announced an Open Beta Test for the game, as well as detailing its Oilwell Basin ecosystem.

The Open Beta Test will be available for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will run on all platforms from 8pm Pacific Time on October 31, 2024, to 7:59pm Pacific Time on November 3, 2024; however, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to access it early on PlayStation 5 starting at 8pm Pacific Time on October 28, 2024. The Open Beta Test will include three modes. The character creation mode will let players create data that can be transferred to the full game upon release. Its Story Trial mode lets players view the opening cutscene of the game and participate in basic tutorials while hunting a Chatacabra. Finally, the free-roaming Doshaguma Hunt, lets players pursue the Alpha of a Doshaguma pack or explore the Windward Plains region. Both the Story Trial and Doshaguma Hunt modes can be experienced solo, with other players (including cross-play support), or with NPC support hunters.

As its name suggests, the Oilwell Basin is an area with oil wells where raging fires occasionally occur. Monsters found within the region include the brute wyvern Rompopolo, which can be found in deep oil silt, as well as fanged best Ajarakan, which is highly active during the Firespring. The Oilwell Basin houses the village of Azuz, which is centered around a large forge and is home to skilled craftsmen. The region is also home to a mysterious monster known as the Black Flame, which lives deep beneath it.

Monster Hunter Wilds will release on February 28, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game sees players joining a special Research Commission investigating an area called the Forbidden Lands. It is planned to feature seamless transitions from story sequences into gameplay and will also add new Seikret mounts, which can guide the riders to planned destinations and let them perform actions such as sharpening weapons and gathering materials while riding, as well as swapping to a secondary weapon without needing to return to base.
