Darkest Dungeon II Gets Mod and Mac Support

Developer and publisher Red Hook Studios released a new update for the PC version of Darkest Dungeon II. The update, titled Darkside of the Mountain, adds modding capabilities, a native MacOS support, and more.

Modding is available from the game’s main menu and allows players to change existing skills as well as create new hero palettes and custom items such as trinkets, combat items, inn items, and stagecoach equipment. Steam and the Epic Games Store users can now play Darkest Dungeon II on Mac without needing a Windows emulator or dual boot setup. In addition, the Darkside of the Mountain update alters the abilities of the Man-at-Arms, Jester, and Vestal heroes. The full details pertaining to the changes and additions included in the update can be found here.

A follow-up to 2016 turn-based roguelike Darkest Dungeon, Darkest Dungeon II sees players tasked with guiding a stagecoach expedition across a decaying landscape to try and avert the apocalypse. The game features a refined version of the previous game’s combat with a new Token System. Each failed run grants resources that can be used on upgrades for future attempts. The game also includes an affinity system between party members, and players can learn more about their heroes’ backstories.

A digital version of Darkest Dungeon II is currently available on PC (via Steam, GOG.com, and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, with a physical release planned in October. Fascinated by the screens since I saw them, video games are a sorcery I quickly became obsessed with. This passion culminated with the discovery of the RPGs. At that time, they were likely the sole titles where story and world building mattered as much as gameplay. Now, I am writing about them, especially my favorite ones: the JRPGs!
