Question of the week: Honestly, I try to avoid playing open world games because they inevitably are janky as hell or do something to irritate me such as restricting movement speed with the stamina meter in the Switch Zelda games. On the rare occasions when I do I try to straight-shot the story on the grounds of “let’s get this over with”, but then get distracted by something in the world and make clearing that out my main quest.
Also, regarding Legends: Z-A there was a city building element hidden in Arceus’s sidequests where you made the citizens more comfortable with Pokemon. So likely Z-A is making that element more explicit, especially as Lumiose is based on Paris which went through a major urban renewal in the middle of the 19th century.
My broken brain hates missing out on anything so I will push into every nook and cranny of an open world. When it’s an RPG, this usually means I’m massively overlevelled by the time I’m forced to return to progress the main story. However, there is also a certain level of open world fatigue that will also push me back to power through the main campaign.
