Of the nominees, it’d be Baldur’s Gate 3 with Sea of Stars as a runner up. If we removed the character action game FFXVI and subbed in Octopath Traveler II… probably still Baldur’s Gate 3.

Octopath Traveler II deserved to be RPG of the year. An unpopular opinion, but I felt that it stood head and shoulders above action titles like Devil May Cry XVI or Lies of P and was far more deserving of the VGA nomination than either of those titles. Chained Echoes was another excellent RPG that deserved a nomination.

I don’t agree with Chained Echoes. It was an ambitious game but it was bogged down with to many systems. Part of what made many of the games it emulated great was that the amount of systems were not overbearing.

I do agree though with Octopath Traveler 2, it far more deserved to be on the RPG list then several of those one there. Though I’m perfectly fine with Baldurs Gate 3 being part of that list.
