New Release Round-Up (September 28, 2023)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Abomi Nation

Monster-taming roguelite RPG Abomi Nation sees players explored a differently generated island with every run. The game is inspired by Pokémon‘s Nuzlocke challenge and features over 175 Abomis to recruit with various settings to adjust.


ANNO: Mutationem

Action adventure RPG ANNO: Mutationem takes place in a cyberpunk setting and uses 3D environments with pixelated 2D characters. The game follows Ann Flores, supported by her hacker friend Ayane, as she looks for the whereabouts of her brother. It includes 3D exploration with 2D combat as well as numerous sidequests including a bartender mini-game. Beneath Oresa

Deckbuilding roguelike Beneath Oresa sees players diving into the depths of the city of Oresa. Players select a hero as well as a companion, each providing eight unique powers. The game looks to combine RPG deckbuilding and “spatial” fighting, where combat is influenced by how close fighters are while cards have different upgrade paths. It has been on Early Access since October 2022.

Musical adventure RPG Everhood sees players control a wooden doll called Red, whose arm has been stolen by a blue gnome. The game takes place in a realm called Everhood where strange creatures pass the time by racing go-karts, taking on obstacle courses, and playing board games. The Eternity Edition will include sixteen new community-designed musical battles featuring music from eleven indie composers. Fate/Samurai Remnant

Action RPG Fate/Samurai Remnant is the latest title in the Fate multimedia franchise, which features pairs of masters and heroic spirits — known as servants — fighting in order to emerge victorious in various Holy Grail Wars and obtain an artifact capable of granting wishes. Fate/Samurai Remnant is set in the fourth year of the Keian era in Edo period Japan (around 1651 CE). While the populace is enjoying a time of general peace, the Waxing Moon Ritual is unfolding in the shadows and seven pairs of masters and servants will begin battling in a new Holy Grail War. Gothic Classic

The first game in the fantasy action RPG series, Gothic originally released for PC in 2001. The game is set in the kingdom of Myrtana, which is attempting to fight off an Orcish invastion. Anyone found breaking the law is sent to the giant penal colony of Khorinis to mine the much needed ore for the war effort. Players control an inmate sent of Khorinis, surviving and making allies while they plot their escape. A full remake is currently in development.


Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos

Farming sim Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos is set in the world of Anthos, which is home to Harvest Sprites that protect people and nature, as well as the Harvest Goddess. However, ten years prior to the game, an eruption in its volcanic region saw the Sprites and Goddess needing to use all of their power to protect the people and left the villages cut off from each other.


Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai

Dragon Quest spin-off action RPG Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai is based on the Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai manga and animated series. Its main Story Mode offers a retelling of the manga and anime series up through the Sovereign Rock Castle arc, while the Temple of Recollection mode is an original dungeon with multiple floors that features different enemies and stage mechanics with each playthrough.


LunarLux

Pixel-art action adventure RPG LunarLux is set a thousand years after a catastrophe led to planet Terra becoming volcanic and lifeless, with the surviving humans managing to make their way onto its moon, Luna. The people have managed to survive and thrive, however, the return of the antimatter comet that caused the initial event on Terra is set to return and wipe out the survivors. The game follows Lunar Warrior Bella as she attempts to destroy the comet, and features a hybrid turn- and action-based combat system that draws inspirations from Mega Man Battle Network, Undertale, and Mario & Luigi.


Sigil of the Magi

Tactical roguelike deckbuilder Sigil of the Magi puts players in control of a party of three champions selected from different factions as they traverse procedurally-generated maps. Players build up their deck of skill cards through encounters, also obtaining powerful relics. The game’s combat telegraphs enemy moves, tasking players with implementing appropriate counters.


WitchSpring R

WitchSpring R is a remake of the first game in the WitchSpring series, which was released for iOS and Android. The game follows Pieberry, a young witch living alone in a forest, and features exploration and crafting-focused gameplay with action combat.
