Square Enix Shares Additional Theatrhythm Final Bar Line Details

Square Enix released some extra details and screenshots for upcoming rhythm title Theatrhythm Final Bar Line. In addition to its structured series quests mode, the game will let players freely play any track they’ve unlocked, whether purely for fun or to try to beat their high scores.

There are three control styles for each track: Standard Style, Pair Style, and Simple Style. Standard Style is the core play style featuring Touch Triggers (button presses), Slide Triggers (stick tilts), Hold Triggers (button holds), and Hold-Slide Triggers (button hold accompanied by an ending stick tilt). Pair Style lets two players play together on the same screen. In Battle or Field Music Stages, each player takes the upper or lower lanes, while in an Event Music Stage, each player takes the left or right lanes. Simple Style is a simplified style, which lets players use just a single button.

Players will be able to create their own ProfiCards. These are personalised profiles that include players’ personal gameplay records. Players can set a summonstone to their ProfiCard, which can be given to others players when participating with them in a Multi Battles. The summonstone is kept by the original player even after other players receive it. Finally, Square Enix confirmed the following characters will be part of the 104 characters in the game from the Final Fantasy series:

  • From Final Fantasy X: Tidus, Yuna, Auron, Jecht, Seymour
  • From Final Fantasy X-2: Yuna (#2), Rikku, Paine
  • From Final Fantasy XII: Vaan, Ashe, Balthier, Fran, Galbranth
  • From Final Fantasy XIV: Y’shtola, Thancred, Yda, Alphinaud, Y’shtola (#2)

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line marks the first time the series will be available on home consoles and will feature similar gameplay to previous entries in the music-based spin-off franchise. Final Bar Line will feature 385 tracks pulled from throughout the Final Fantasy franchise as well as two-player couch co-op and up to four-player online rhythm battles. Additional tracks from other franchises such as NieRSaGaOctopath TravelerLive A Live, and Chrono Trigger will be available as part of the Digital Deluxe Edition, with further tracks to be released as DLC. Theatrhythm Final Bar Line is in development for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 and planned to launch on February 16, 2023.
