Puzzle and Rhythm RPG ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree Announced

Publisher Untold Tales and developer Wildboy Studios have announced ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree. The game is billed as a Norse mythology-inspired, story-driven, rhythm-combat RPG and is in development for PC and Nintendo Switch. It is currently planned for release in 2023, with a demo currently available for PC via Steam.

ATONE: Heart of the Elder Tree is set in a world abandoned by the gods, leaving mortals to fend for themselves and the sacred Elder Tree left open to manipulation. Players control Estra, the daughter of the mankind’s last great leader and its remaining hope.

The game sees Estra taking on incrementally challenging puzzles. Certain puzzles cannot be brute-forced through and mistakes can lead to them being failed completely, closing off potential answers to the game’s story. The game’s combat is inspired by rhythm games, with each fight’s unique music track playing an important role, though combat is entirely skippable.
