New Release Round-Up (June 23, 2022)
Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes
Action RPG Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes features elements of developer Omega Force’s Musou titles. It is set in an alternate version of the world of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, where players control a new protagonist named Shez. They are a mercenary whose presence causes a change in the normal timeline and who rises to face the Ashen Demon. The game features three storylines, depending on which house Shez elects to align themselves with.
Deckbuilding RPG Gordian Quest notes old-school CRPGs (such as Ultima and Dungeons & Dragons) as inspirations. Players take a party of three members, selected from ten playable heroes, through produrally-generated maps. The game features a four-act Campaign Mode, as well as a short-form roguelite Realm Mode, longer-form Adventure Mode, and two-player PvP mode. It includes multiple difficulty options, including optional permadeath.
The Shadowrun Trilogy collection contains Harebrained Schemes’ trio of turn-based RPGs Shadowrun Returns, Shadowrun: Dragonfall – Director’s Cut, and Shadowrun: Hong Kong – Extended Edition. All three games utilise the Shadowrun tabletop role-playing game’s science fantasy setting and feature turn-based tactical combat.
Steve Jackson’s Sorcery!
The Steve Jackson’s Sorcery! collection contains the adaptations of the four-part choose-your-own-adventure gamebook series released in the ’80s as part of the greater Fighting Fantasy franchise. It consists of four connected parts: The Shamutanti Hills, Kharé: Cityport of Traps, The Seven Serpents, and The Crown of Kings. Players take on the role of a lone adventurer who must make their way across the land of Analand to reclaim the stolen Crown of Kings, a magical artifact of immense power. To win back the Crown, they must brave many dangers and ultimately face the cruel Archmage of Mampang Fortress.
The Caligula Effect 2
The Caligula Effect 2 puts players in control of a student in a virtual academy in the world of Redo, a self-proclaimed “paradise” governed by a virtual idol called Regret. They join a resistance called the Go-Home Club to fight against Regret and the Obbligato Musicians and escape Redo.
