New Release Round-Up (August 18, 2022)
Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.
Across the Obelisk
Co-op roguelite deck-building RPG Across the Obelisk sees players creating a party and taking part in turn-based tactical combat. The game features single player or co-op with up to three others as the party takes its own path across the world that branches based on their decisions. It features sixteen playable characters, over 500 upgradeable cards, and over 200 items.
Cyberpunk RPG Cloudpunk takes place in the city of Nivalis, which is home to androids, AIs, and humans. Players control a character named Raina on her first night working for the eponymous delivery company Cloudpunk. Raina undertakes dangerous delivery jobs and explores the vertical city on foot and by hovercar. The PlayStation 5 version includes 4k resolution support at 60 fps and various graphical enhancements, and the addition of cockpit mode (previously exclusive to the PC version), as well as DualSense features including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. Light Fairytale Episode 2
Turn-based RPG Light Fairytale Episode 2 is the direct sequel to Light Fairytale Episode 1. It continues the story of Haru and Ayaka as they journey to reunite with an old friend and lets players import stats, items, and other collectibles from the previous game.
RPG Time: The Legend of Wright
Notebook RPG RPG Time: The Legend of Wright sees players meeting a young developer in an empty classroom to try out their hand-crafted creation. The game has been created from the pages of a notebook, with new tricks and gimmicks appearing on each page. Spirit of the Island
Life sim RPG Spirit of the Island takes place on a tropical island that used to be a tourist hotspot before it fell to ruin. Players are tasked with helping to revitalise the island by building new facilities, helping the villagers, looking after farms, attracting tourists, and defending it from pirates.
Action RPG Thymesia puts players in control of the plague-masked half-human, half-raven hybrid known as Corvus. He unravels the mysteries of a once-prosperous kingdom now fallen into chaos due to the spread of a plague that has mutated its inhabitants into monsters. Corvus is able to use a special pair of weapons that let him draw the plague from enemies and use the abilities it grants for himself.
Tribes of Midgard
Tribes of Midgard is a co-op survival action RPG set in a procedurally generated world where players can play solo or join a tribe of up to 10 players. The game’s Saga Mode sees players building and crafting their way to a showdown against world bosses before the arrival of Fimbulwinter, while its Survival Mode sees players trying to defend their village from a flow of enemies that get stronger the longer they survive. The Xbox and Switch launch comes with the “Season 3: Inferno Saga” update that adds a new Saga Quest and Saga Boss, the Volcanic Spire Biome, a spear weapon, fishing, and more. It also includes the new Survival 2.0 revamped game mode.
