Embracer Group Acquiring Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal

Embracer Group announced it has reached a deal to acquire development studios Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, and Square Enix Montréal from Square Enix. The deal is valued at $300 million and includes relevant IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, and Legacy of Kain. It is expected to close between July and September 2022. The company held an hour-long webcast to provide extra details on the acquisition.

Embracer Group is the parent company of THQ Nordic (formerly Nordic Games) and currently owns numerous publishing labels and development studios including Asmodee, Gearbox Entertainment, Deep Silver, Perfect World Entertainment, Saber Interactive, Aspyr Media, and more. Crystal Dynamics is primarily known for the 2007 Tomb Raider reboot and subsequent series entries, as well as Marvel’s Avengers. Eidos-Montréal is the developer of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, as well as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Square Enix Montréal is a mobile-focused developer behind Hitman Go, Lara Croft Go, and Deus Ex Go.
