Front Mission: Borderscape Announced

Square Enix, ZlonGame, and BlackJack Studio have announced Front Mission: Borderscape, a new mobile title for the sci-fi franchise. The game is being overseen by Square Enix, with ZlonGame publishing and BlackJack Studio acting as main developer. The game is being developed for iOS and Android; no release window has been announced, but those interested can pre-register on the game’s official website.

No details about the game or its story have been revealed, though a concept trailer can be viewed below that gives some hints and a potential event scene. The video also features Square Enix Division Director Kouichiro Sakamoto, who oversees the Front Mission franchise, and GCRAFT President Toshiro Tsuchida, who worked on the first three games in the series.

The two discuss the series’ setting in the late 21st century, where new superpowers such as Oceania Cooperative Union and United States of the New Continent (USN) come into conflict. They focus on the fictional Huffman Island, which has been the centre for conflict between the OCU and USN. The video also mentions “2089”, though it is not clear whether Front Mission: Borderscape has any connection to mid-2000s Japan-only mobile tactical RPGs Front Mission 2089 and Front Mission 2089-II.
