New Release Round-Up (January 27, 2022)

Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases where the game is still in development.


Broken Ranks

Broken Ranks is a follow-up to Whitemoon Games’ previous MMORPG, The Pride of Taern, and draws inspiration from such titles as Heroes of Might and Magic and Baldur’s Gate. It sees players take on the role of a Taernian refugee who has had to flee their homeland after an invasion by Utorian hordes. The game offers players a choice of seven classes when creating their character: knight, sheed, archer, druid, voodoo, fire mage, and barbarian. Those looking to learn more can check out Luis Mauricio’s PAX Online impression.


Doors of Insanity

Roguelike deckbuilding RPG Doors of Insanity sees players creating their own character and exploring the halls of Purgatory. Players upgrade their character using the various pieces of equipment they find within the halls while obtaining allies and cards that offer new potential combat strategies against the enemies waiting within each room.


Monster Harvest

Farming sim/monster battling hybrid Monster Harvest sees players building up their farm near the town of Planimal Point, where they can explore the surroundings to find new resources to upgrade their home with. The crops planted can mutate into Planimals, which players can bring with them into battle. The PlayStation 5 version includes upscaled visuals; improved performance, stability, and frame rate; and DualSense lighting, speaker, and haptic feedback features.


Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Pokémon Legends: Arceus offers a new approach for the series with its open, full-3D world. The game sees players venturing out to help create the region’s first Pokédex in Hisui, the past name of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl’s Sinnoh region.


Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth

Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is a Metroidvania that follows the elf Deedlit. She wakes up in a strange dungeon and encounters many familiar characters from the Record of Lodoss War series as she progresses through it. Tactical RPG Reverie Knights Tactics sends players on an expedition to find the lost elven city of Lennorien while fighting the goblin forces spreading across the continent. Players lead a party of four heroes in isometric turn-based combat, with a storyline driven by the player’s decisions.


Serin Fate

Serin Fate is a top-down retro action RPG. Players head into monster-infested lands to aid Princess Starwen by uncovering ancient relics and restoring the Fate Stone. In action to fighting against enemies with their magic and familiar, players can run errands for the Witches Guild, fishing and tend a potion garden.


Thea 2: The Shattering

Platform: Xbox One (previously released on PC, Nintendo Switch)

Thea 2: The Shattering combines elements of 4X strategy, card games, and survival RPGs. Players take on the role of a deity from a Slavic mythology-inspired pantheon, controlling the fate of a small group of believers struggling for survival.
