New Shikabanegurai no Boukenmeshi Details Released

Nippon Ichi Software released new details and screenshots for its upcoming title Shikabanegurai no Boukenmeshi. The game’s title translates to “Eating the Corpses as an Adventure Meal”, and follows a group of adventurers who become stranded in a large dungeon and need to survive using whatever resources they can find, including eating monsters they defeat.

Players create their own party of four adventurers, selecting from various appearance options and classes. As they journey through the dungeon, the party collects ingredients used to create meals that can both satiate their hunger and provide bonuses. If the leader of the party dies, then players lose all of the levels and ingredients, being forced to start again from the beginning but holding onto any unlocked recipes and equipment. Dangers include monster houses where lots of monsters reside that may surround the player. Dungeons are home to a variety of monsters, include special elite and unique monsters. These can have different traits and resistances to their normal versions but grant extra experience and have higher drop rates for rare ingredients. At certain points, players will come across altars guarded by boss monsters. Defeating the boss will let players use the altar as an alternative starting point for the party.

Adventure food is created using ingredients found while adventuring and replenishes calories, boosts stats, and even grants new skills. The game encourages experimentation when cooking as cooking the same ingredients in different manners can produce different dishes. For example, grilling two types of meat creates roasted meat, while frying them creates kushikatsu. Each dish also receives a level of quality based on the quality of the ingredients and the cooking ability of the party member that makes it. The game will include dishes that might be unappetising to many, including insects, and the game will come with an option that censors such meals for those who might have phobias and such. Shikabanegurai no Boukenmeshi will include four difficulty settings ranging from Easy to Nightmare. Players can change difficulty during a playthrough.

Shikabanegurai no Boukenmeshi is being developed for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. It will release in Japan on January 27, 2022. No announcement has been made regarding a western release.
