New Release Round-Up (October 14, 2021)
Welcome to RPGamer’s new release round-up. In this column we look to provide our readers with details on all of the RPGs released over the week. Please note we do not currently include Early Access releases.
Set in a block of the city of Revachol, Disco Elysium puts players in control of a drug-addled cop who wakes up after a days-long bender and must solve a local murder. The game includes twenty-four skills to upgrade, a dozen tools, and a soundtrack from the band British Sea Power. Dungeon Encounters is a single-player strategic dungeon exploration RPG. It tasks players with venturing through 2D grid-based maps, overcoming obstacles and battles as they try to reach the deepest level. Combat utilises a version of the ATB system, with players able to customise their party. The game is directed by Final Fantasy IX director and creator of the series’ Active Time Battle system Hiroyuki Ito and produced by Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age producer Hiroaki Kato, with character designs from Ryoma Ito and a soundtrack overseen by Nobuo Uematsu.
Harvest Moon: One World
Harvest Moon: One World is set in a world where crops are fading from existence, with the protagonist travelling around while searching for answers and maintaining their own farm. Players will be able to create their own character and become romantically involved with other characters in the game. Players also have the ability to bring their farm with them on their adventures.
Hacking RPG Midnight Protocol is set in the near future. Players control a hacker who is being blackmailed by the government after their personal details are released. All interaction is done through a virtual environment using keyboard controls. Players can gain white, black, and grey hat reputation, with the story changing based on their actions.
Monster taming RPG Monster Crown is set 20 years after a group rose up and overthrew the tyrannical Philosopher Kings who ruled Crown Island. However, a woman is now seeking to get hold of the Kings’ power, with players traveling across the land and making pacts with monsters as they seek to stop her. The game features over 200 base monsters, which can be bred and fused to create brand new species.
Third-person action RPG Starlight Alliance follows Lea and Cyris on a future Earth where humans and aliens live in sky cities above the inhospitable surface. The two strangers end up teaming up to investigate when systems and the drone networks start failing. The game features light puzzles, fast-paced combat with players able to switch between the two characters at any time, and crafting elements.
Tears of Avia
Tears of Avia is a turn-based strategy RPG set in the world of Estera. Players will be able to control a party of five characters, with multiple job classes and numerous skills available for each member, as they work together to search for the lost city of Avalon.
The Riftbreaker is a hybrid between action RPG and base-building strategy title. Players control captain Ashley S. Nowak, an elite scientist/commando who pilots a powerful Mecha-Suit. She is sent through a one-way portal to the planet Galatea 37 and tasked with building a base to set up a two-way rift that will allow travel back to Earth and a colonisation program.
